CONTACT LENS……THE DANGERS INVOLVED

With the exploding nature of fashion trends, various people, especially the youths now

see the need to follow the erroneous line of “if you can’t beat them, join them”.

In as much as a greater number of people use contact lens for the right purpose, there are still others who just use them because they look fashionable. Whichever group you fall into, please ensure you know what  you are doing.

By definition, a contact lens is a  light-weight corrective, cosmetic or therapeutic device placed directly on the cornea of the eye. In essence, the usage of this object is prescribed and supervised by a specialist, an eye doctor.

Contact lenses are very safe if you follow all laid down rules given by the specialist. Wearing them for too long, failure to clean them properly or to replace them at the right time as directed by your doctor may damage your eyes.

This write-up hopes to enlighten you on the dangers of not obeying your specialist as far as contact lens usage is concerned.

Due to the fact that the lenses rest directly on the eyes, covering the entire cornea, they decrease the amount of oxygen reaching the eyes. Oxygen deprivation adversely affects the eyes. You can reduce this effect by adhering to the wearing schedule recommended by your doctor and also by discarding and replacing contacts when told to.

Contact lenses increase risk of eye damage due to the fact that bacteria and other infection-causing agents can accumulate on the front and back of the contact lens. This risk increase with the age of the contact lens. Regular cleaning and disinfecting of your lens after use using the solution recommended by your doctor reduces this risk.

For the sake of your safety, do not abuse contact lenses because you just may start your gradual process to blindness.

  1. Really scary, I was just considering the benefit of contacts because am really tired of glasses itself. The procedures for taking care of it is too tedious. Sticking to my glasses
