In the spirit of Throwback Thursday(TBT), we discuss the
history of the great King Jaja of Opobo.
King Jaja of Opobo, full name Jubo Jubogha was
the first known Nigerian richest man, a merchant prince, founder of the Opobo
City-State which now forms part of Nigeria’s Rivers state.
Early Life
and Background.
Jubo Jubogha was born in the year 1821 at
Umuduruoha, Amaigbo Village in the Orlu Dustrict of present Imo state. He was
given the native igbo name “Mbanaso Okwaraozurumba” at birth and was the third
son of his Parents. He was sold into slavery and bought by Chief Iganipughuma
Allison of Bonny.
