After
a really long day, you meander your way through traffic and arrive home
feeling
all tired and hungry. You open your door and darkness greets you. I know just
how frustrating it is having to look for something in the dark, especially if
your phone is also dead. Well imagine if you could get some form of
illumination by simply bending a stick. Today we shine our spotlight on the GLOW
STICK OR SNAP LIGHT.
A
glow stick is a self-contained, short- term light source that has a translucent
plastic tube containing isolated substances that light up when combined and so
does not require an external energy source. It should be noted that this light cannot be turned off and can only be
used once.
The
stick has an inner tube that contains Hydrogen peroxide solution and the outer
tube contains phenyl oxalate and fluorescent dye solution. When you snap or
bend this stick, the solutions mix up and bring out a glow that is bright
enough to light up a small room.
Due
to the fact that this stick is waterproof, does not use batteries, generates
negligible heat and therefore can be carried around using your bare hand, is inexpensive
and relatively disposable, its usage cuts across every area of life but do not
forget the downside, IT CAN ONLY BE USED
ONCE. The manufacturers accounted
for this lapse in its affordability.
